To Singapore from KL

Singapore is a popular Asian destination because of its accessibility and because of its attractions. It is a small country, but has a lot to offer. It is primarily Chinese, but is now diverse because people from all over the world go there to visit, while some to work and settle.

Our visit to Singapore was the second leg of our trip in August 2013. From Kuala Lumpur station, we hopped on an overnight train to Woodlands, Singapore. I had our roundtrip tickets booked before we left home. Taking the overnight train is practical because it saved us a hotel night. It has bunk beds so you can sleep in and be ready for a day of going around Singapore.

Look at my happy little backpacker up there!

From Woodlands, we took buses to my friend's place in Tampines, but we were so lost. We were tired from the trip so we decided to stay at a Fragrance Hotel in Geylang. Walk-ins will cost about $25 extra per night compared to pre-booking so we dropped by an Internet cafe to book a room at a better deal, and then checked in.

We cannot stay in the room yet until 2pm so we just left our bags and headed out. We first went to Bugis station to get an MRT Tourist Pass. A pass good for 3 days costs, if I remember it right, $32 for an adult, $10 of which is refundable when you return the card at the end of your visit. It gives you unlimited rides on buses and MRT, another practical way of getting around Singapore as you may be lost at some points. Even if I lived there for a short while before, it's too complicated that I still get lost. Also, you can just hop on one bus after the other to see places at a better view instead of paying for a guided bus tour.

Kino enjoyed tapping his card on buses and at train stations.

After Bugis, we went to Chinatown. My aunt loves buying souvenirs as if she's buying for everyone she knows. Also, we needed to buy our Universal Studios day tour ticket at a travel agency there, which costs $10 less than buying it at the gate.

Tita Nidz took about an hour at one store, which turned out to be not enough because we had to go back there on our last day.

He's got all the ref magnets we need!

We also went to Suntec City, too bad it was under renovation at that time. We went to Orchard Road, had some of our USD exchanged to SGD. Lucky Plaza has a better exchange rate than Chinatown.

I was really tired that day that my brain wasn't able to think of letting them see the iconic Merlion in broad daylight when we were so near while we were at Suntec.

In the evening, I had dinner with my friends, who thought we were lost because I was practically MIA since I didn't drop any of them a message the entire day (sorry), in Vivo City. Catching up over dinner is never enough as there are so many things to talk about.

Tired, happy and excited

The tourists had to rest, as tomorrow is another day, solely intended for Universal Studios. ♡

P.S. I just like to share this weird thing we saw along the way... Fresh FROG porridge. Really?!?
