Camiguin: Getting There

While I am planning to share my past travel experiences here, I might as well start with the most recent one.

My friends and I have been itching to travel for more than a year now. Work schedule made it almost impossible to have a getaway the soonest.

Camiguin is our chosen destination for this round.

We booked a vacation house and tour vehicle about two months before our travel. It's already the start of summer vacation and the start of the Holy Week so we anticipated a lot of vacation goers.

The vacation house we stayed in has two bedrooms, a spacious kitchen and living room. It was only for Php2,500 per night. Tour vehicle (multicab) from the same owner was for Php1,900 for two days, already includes driver/tour guide and gas.

The owner, Teddy Pabualan, was really nice and warmly welcomed us to his house. Our driver for two days, Tata, was nice and shy, the type of person you can't be angry at. (I'll post contact details at the end of this article.)

If you're a lone traveler or traveling with just one companion and you know how to ride a motorcycle, you might want to rent a motor bike. It's only for Php500 for full 24 hours. I don't know what the arrangement is on gas. There are motorcycle rentals offered right outside the port.

We jumped off from CDO at 4:30am via a van at Php120 per person. The drive to Balingoan Port took about 1 hour and 40 mins. At the port, you need to line up four times: for ferry boat ticket, for environmental fee, for terminal fee and for baggage inspection.

I wasn't geared with patience that morning for other rowdy travelers. You might need to bring a pocketful of patience if you travel during peak season.

We started sailing at around 6:45am, and arrived Benoni Port in Camiguin at 8am. We were greeted by a sign with my name on it (kinda embarrassing, actually), and were led to the multicab waiting just right outside the port gate.

And then the adventure began.
